Cinderella 99, also known as C99 or Cindy 99, is a sativa-dominant hybrid released in 1999 by Mr. Soul of Brothers Grimm Seeds, bred from Princess, a plant grown from a seed found in a Jack Herer bud, and Shiva Skunk.1,2,3 It tests at a median total THC of 22.31% across 598 state lab tests of Cinderella 99 flower, with the middle half of results between 19.48% and 24.15%.4 CBD is negligible: none of the 549 tests that reported CBD reached 1%.4

Cinderella 99 is a sativa-dominant hybrid, and Leafly rates it mostly energizing.1 Published splits run from over 60% sativa (Alchimia, for Brothers Grimm’s seeds) to 85% (AllBud).8,9 Its mother plant grew from a seed found in a Jack Herer bud.3
The median total THC across 598 state lab tests was 22.31%, higher than 29 of the 42 other strains with at least 100 tests in our dataset, and 15.6% of tests reached 25% or more.4 Among years with at least 20 tests, yearly medians ranged from 19.42% in 2021 (165 tests) to 24.80% in 2023 (53).4
Mr. Soul of Brothers Grimm Seeds. He found the seeds behind it in a Jack Herer bud in Amsterdam in 1996, crossed a standout female from them, Princess, with Shiva Skunk and backcrossed the line to Princess.3 Brothers Grimm dates the release to 1999.2
Citrus first. On Weedmaps, 47% of flavor reports say citrus, 31% lemon and 22% earthy, and Leafly users list citrus, grapefruit and flowery.1,5 The breeder says it shares the sweet, fruity taste of its mother plant, Princess, whose scent he compares to tropical fruit and pineapple.3,10
Yes. Leafly lists C99, Cindy 99 and Cindy as other names for Cinderella 99, Weedmaps lists C99 and Cindy, and our lab data counts "Cinderella 99", "C99" and "Cindy 99" as one strain.1,4,5 Names that add another strain, such as "49 DURBAN x CINDY 99", are crosses, and our lab data leaves them out.4

Cinderella 99 does not appear in the best-seller lists we checked: Leafly’s best-selling strains of 2025, Headset’s 2020 strain sales report and The Marijuana Herald’s September 2026 list of the top seller in each adult-use state.11,12,13 Its reach shows in breeding instead: SeedFinder counts 300 direct descendants of the Brothers Grimm original, and Leafly lists Space Queen, Apollo 11 and Sour Apple among its offspring.3,14,15,16
Most lab results for it come from Maryland: 523 of the 598 tests in our dataset, dated 2015 to 2023.4 On Oct 3, 2026, Weedmaps listings clustered around New York (21 stores within 50 miles) and Newark (12), and 19 of 27 markets had none.17 On Leafly, 1,204 users have rated it, for an average of 4.2 out of 5.1
The only competition result we could confirm went to a cross: a cross of Cinderella 99 and White entered by Natural Remedies took third place for best U.S. hybrid at the 2014 Denver Cannabis Cup.18
